Piano Teaching Philosophy Play Enjoy Improve.png

The focus of my piano lessons revolves around three key elements:

  • Making (playing) music,
  • Enjoyment,
  • And learning (or improving).

To facilitate the key elements listed above, I endeavour to:

  • Create a positive atmosphere,
  • Demonstrate helpful qualities,
  • And provide a nurturing environment in my home teaching studio.

I use various musical activities, resources, and approaches to help students develop into well-rounded musicians with a broad set of skills and understanding.

I devote time and energy to cultivating students' habits, qualities, beliefs and skills to help them to enjoy learning, become more independent and to succeed.

I offer opportunities for pupils to further their development through performance, exams, and group work.

Qualifications, Experience and CPD

I have over 20 years of teaching experience and hold ABRSM Grade 8 piano, an ABRSM Certificate for Music Educators, and certification from the European Piano Teachers Association. Additionally, I completed Penelope Roskell's course for teachers. The European Piano Teachers Association also provides my insurance and DBS check.

I regularly reflect on my teaching and spend lots of time refining and developing my curriculum and approach.

I have experience playing in bands and accompanying. I also enjoy playing duets with friends and family. Additionally, I stay up to date with new information and releases related to music teaching, and enjoy learning new pieces.
